Shelter Star's Scholarship Program

With more and more shelter dogs being returned due to behavioral issues that developed or worsened in their new home, we knew we had to do something. To combat this issue we decided to start the "Shelter Star's" Program to showcase these amazing dogs and give them the help that they need. We aren't sure where this program will take us but we hope you will chose to follow along the journey with us.

How the program works...

Our goal for this program is to be able to accept donations towards the training of the shelter pups who are in the most need. Pups who have been taken off the adoptable dogs list for behavioral issues are at the top of our priority list. Currently we are donating 100% of the expense of this program to get it off the ground, but if you like the mission and want to help please donate below. If you can't donate, considering sharing the information with others because our goal is to find these pups their perfect home. Our hope is that any dog going through this program will have a forever home to go to directly from the training program and never have to go back into the shelter. If you have questions about a pup in the program and would like to know more about their training or adoptability, please reach out to our program coordinator with a text, call or email.

Shelter Star - Bing Bong

This sweet boy had been in multiple shelter situations by the time our friends at the Marshall County Humane Society pulled him from the county shelter. MCHS is a no-kill facility but their ability to help more pups is hindered when they take in dogs who are not currently adoptable. Bing was struggling with some resource guarding over his handlers, leash pulling, and jumping. While all of these are manageable by themselves, the resource guarding was no longer something the novice owner could handle. Within a short period of time in our training program we have been able to use behavior modification training to improve or eliminate his problem behaviors.

He loves any sort of brain game and training time is his favorite time of the day. When it's time to get in the car, he is an excellent traveler and does well harnessed with his seatbelt or in his crate. His social skills are impeccable with both other dogs and people. Pup cups are one of his favorite special treats at the moment but we are sure he will continue to find new favorites. He would love to find a new home with active people who he could go hiking and camping with. Runner or cyclist's new best friend in the making.

If you think that sounds like you, give us a call so we can get the application process started:) We know his family is out there.
